In a concentric modular chimney system, the inner pipe is for smoke evacuation, and the outer one for air intake.

It is currently used in many new passive houses, as they need to have highly controlled ventilation and very high energy efficiency. This is why they require this chimney system, because in a single exit hole it takes air from outside and ensures good combustion of the stove.
